'Virtual Małopolska' is a digitalisation project implemented by the Małopolska Institute of Culture under the Regional Operational Programme for Małopolskie Voievodship 2014–2020. For the purpose of this project, the Institute will collaborate with twenty Małopolska museum institutions in order to perform 2D and 3D digitalisation of ca. 1.500 exhibits. This activity is a partial continuation of the 'Małopolska Virtual Museums' project, albeit it involves a wider range od virtual exhibitions, educational courses and other activities focused on specific collections  and topics, involving concepts and scenarios developed by Cracow's Małopolska Institute of Culture advised by custodians and experts in different areas of knowledge. The Jagiellonian University Museum initiated its participation in the project at the beginning of 2020. Objects representative for the Jagiellonian University Museum were selected for inclusion in the portal, demonstrating the multifaceted quality of its collection and connected not only to the university, but to Cracow in general, in this way reminding of the social role played by the university in the municipial space. The digitalisation will allow a closer approach to objects belonging to our educational and cultural heritage, enabling to tell about their history in a more elaborated way than during guided tours in museum rooms. Moreover, the project will enable a broader popularisation of science and knowledge about Polish scientists and scholars. This is one of the responsibilities of our museum which is also typical for all university museums. In addition to the JUM collection, the heritage of the Jagiellonian University will be represented by the participation of the JU CM Museum of Pharmacy in the same endeavour. The portal will be launched in Autumn 2020.
