Lecture: The Skevra Gospel Book of Lviv

We are inviting you to attend a lecture to be held by Prof. Małgorzata Smorag Różycka: 'The Skevra Gospel Book of Lviv: A masterpiece of Armenian art of illumination from the late 12th century'. The event will take place on Tuesday, 25 October, at 5 p.m. in the Collegium Maius Aula. The subject of the lecture is the most unique Armenian artifact in all Polish collections: a richly illuminated manuscript of the four Gospels translated into the Armenian language. The lecture will be livestreamed on the Museum's YT channel.

The manuscript was created in Skevra, a city in the Armenian Kingdom of Cillicia, at the end of the 12th century. In 15th century, it was brought to Poland and at the end of the 16th century it became a part of the Armenian cathedral's treasury in Lviv. Presently, it is being kept in the collection of the National Library in Warsaw. A facsimile copy of the Gospel Book will be displayed in the temporary exhibition hosted by the Jagiellonian University Museum, named Women under the Sign of the Cross. Armenian Benedictine Nuns of Lviv and their Spirituality.
