Air balloon experiment
On 1st April 2012 the "air balloon experiment" was recreated in the Collegium Maius courtyard to commemorate the event which took place in 1784, when scientists from the Main School of the Crown (the present-day University) carried out the original experiment by launching a balloon filled with hot air. The historical event took place in the Botanical Garden during the office time of Rector Hugo Kołłątaj. Apart from two large white and blue balloons, another hundred of small colorful balloons were released into air. During the event, visitors were able to listen to the original description of the experiment, which was written 228 years ago.
