Sculpture – Karol Badyna

event-date: 15.07.2013

This year, the space of the Professor Garden in the Jagiellonian university will become a gallery space thanks to Karol Badyna's sculptures. The artist has prepared sculpture portraits of famous citizens of Cracow, closely connected to the Jagiellonian University. Beside a portrait of Czesław Miłosz, displayed are also other figures depicting Karol Estreicher or Julian Aleksandrowicz.

In the Huta Courtyard, near to the św. Anny street entrance, there is a large-format sculpture of King Kasimir the Great on display, inspired by the stained-glass window of Stanisław Wyspiański.

The choice of sculptures presented in the exhibition was not random. The year 2014 marks the great jubilee for the Jagiellonian University. The 650th foundation anniversary is approaching, the historical event which was possible thanks to King Kasimir the Great's efforts, but also the 50th anniversary of the Jagiellonian University Museum's foundation, which was created by Prof. Karol Estreicher in the Collegium Maius edifice.

We would like to invite you to visit the new exhibition. The sculptures will be displayed before 25th October in the Professor Garden, and then moved to the Huta Courtyard, making it a kind of hall of fame for Cracow and the Jagiellonian University.

A catalogue book has been released and is available for purchase in the museum shop.
