Summary of the Zdzisław Beksiński exhibition

About 6.500 visitors in 6 days – the end effect of the ‘Beksiński Unknown' exhibition (18 – 23rd March 2016).

The visitors, most of them students but not only, stormed their way to the exhibition of Collegium Maius, more than once waiting in long queues and suffering from difficult weather conditions. Among the 100 works displayed on the exhibition were the inventive photographs from the 1955 – 1960 period, the digital photomontages from 1996 – 2000 and the extraordinarily original works of graphic digitally processed by the artist between 2000 and 2004. The presented works were subjected to an insightful analysis since Zdzisław Beksiński has neither provided their titles nor signed them, in this way leaving numerous possibilities of interpretation.

An integral part of the exhibition is the multimedia biographical presentation about the life and work of the artist, complemented by unique photographs, previously unpublished interviews and documentary films.

Another event accompanying the exhibition was a virtual reality show inspired by the Zdzisław Beksiński's work. With use of special glasses the visitor gained the ability to enter the world of Beksiński's painting, for example crawling through claustrophobic tunnels to finally meet the famous ‘figure at the cradle' eye in eye.
