The Jagiellonian University Museum invites everyone to visit a new temporary exhibition. The opening event is to take place on 7 May at 12:00. The exhibition will remain open from 8 May to 30 August 2024. Open the article to read the full description of the exhibition and the opening hours.
The exhibition highlights the history of the Jagiellonian University Museum. On 6 May 1964 at 11 o'clock, the Museum was opened to the public. For 60 years, Collegium Maius, the building housing the JU Museum, has been an obligatory destination for tourists coming from all over the world. Moreover, it was visited by crowned heads, diplomats, and prominent scientific and artistic figures. The new exhibition lets visitors to explore Collegium Maius in a completely new way. The Museum created by Professor Karol Estreicher junior has caused many controversies due to the circumstances surrounding the redevelopment and new arrangement of Collegium Maius — the oldest, medieval building of the Jagiellonian University. No other museum with a similar backstory can be found in Cracow. The exhibition focuses on its creator, Karol Estreicher junior, and confronts the black legend that arose in Cracow after his death. It also tells the stories of the extraordinary people working in the JU Museum and the present functioning of the vision of Jagiellonian University's heritage.
Wystawa poświęcona jest historii Muzeum Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Dokładnie 6 maja 1964 r. o godz. 11.00 nastąpiło otwarcie Muzeum dla publiczności. Przez 60 lat Collegium Maius w którym znajduje się Muzeum UJ stało się jednym z obowiązkowych punktów odwiedzin turystów z całego świata. Bywały tu również koronowane głowy, dyplomaci, osobistości świata nauki i sztuki. Zwiedzający wystawę poznają Collegium Maius od strony dotąd nieznanej. Muzeum stworzone przez prof. Karola Estreichera młodszego wywoływało jednak wiele kontrowersji z uwagi na charakter przebudowy i aranżacji Collegium Maius – najstarszego, bo średniowiecznego budynku Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Nie ma na mapie Krakowa drugiego muzeum z taką historią. Wystawa koncentruje się na Jego twórcy, czyli Karolu Estreicherze młodszym oraz konfrontuje się z czarną legendą, jaka powstała w Krakowie po jego śmierci. Opowiada również o nietuzinkowych ludziach pracujących w Muzeum UJ oraz jak stworzona wizja dziedzictwa Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego funkcjonuje dzisiaj.
