Touch the Nobel Prize

The University Museum is inextricably linked with the famous Polish poetess and Nobel Prize winner Wisława Szymborska. The permanent exhibition of the Museum features the original Nobel Prize awarded to the poetess, which after her death became property of the Museum.

Replica of the Nobel Prize medal

We wanted to make sure that valuable exhibit brings persons with sight loss pride and joy through touch. For the occasion, the medal’s adaptation was made which anyone can touch. The adaptation has been prepared in cooperation with and thanks to the financial involvement of the Wisława Szymborska Foundation. The Nobel Committee in Oslo has approved of such a Nobel medal presentation to persons with sight loss.

Excerpt from the Touch Culture guidebook

"The Nobel Prize is one of the most important distinctions awarded for eminent accomplishments in the field of science, literature as well as fight for human rights. It was established and founded by Alfred Nobel, a known Swedish industrialist and dynamite inventor. On the obverse, each medal features an image of the founder as well as the dates of his birth and death while the reverse features an image of the god Apollo accompanied by one of his muses as well as the first name and surname of the recipient of the prize."
