The Night of Scientists 2023

Date: 29.09.2023
The Night of Scientists 2023

Visit the Jagiellonian University Museum on the Night of Scientists. Registration begins on 21 September at 9:00. This year, the highlights of the event are Nicolaus Copernicus and... colours. Open this article to read the event schedule.

The two avaiable workshops, Mysteries of Colour and What do we know about Copernicus, are aimed at persons older than 16 years. We welcome both individual visitors and groups.

Mysteries of Colour

Time: 10:00, 11:00 (duration: ca. 50 min., up to 25 participants)

This workshop showcases experiments centered around colours. They illustrate such phenomena as the dispersion of light, as well as various methods of extracting colours from white light, including dispersion, polarisation and thin-film interference. Other experiments will teach you about the way we perceive colours and how to see colours... that do not exist.

What do we know about Copernicus?

Time: 13:00 (duration: ca. 60 min., up to 25 participants)

How well developed was astronomy in antiquity and the medieval period? What was the image of the universe according to the geocentric doctrine? What made Copernicus search for alternative solutions and what inspired him? Why was his theory so controversial?
