event-date: 16.10.2014

The opening event of the exhibition named "Fifty years of Jagiellonian University Museum's activity in Collegium Maius – snapshots" is planned to take place on the 29th October in the Collegium Maius cellars. The exhibition will feature photographs which illustrate selected events and activities of the University Museum located in the Cracow's oldest academic building. The Jagiellonian University Museum was opened on the 6th May 1964. This coincided with the 600th Jubilee of the Jagiellonian University. The opening of the museum was a result of several years of hard work and preparations, related to renovation of the building, as well as the arrangement of its rooms and gathering of exhibits. The photographs featured in the exhibition are neither a detailed documentation nor an exact summary of the Jagiellonian University Museum's history. They illustrate the key moments in history of musem's organization. the development of its collection, new goals and initiatives. At the same time, it is a commemoration of all persons who were linked to the place and institution for many years. The name of the exhibition does not set precise time boundaries, as the memories go back as far as into the 1950s. The displayed photographs come from the Jagiellonian University Museum and the Cracow's Society of Friends of Fine Arts collections. The additional commentary consists of quotations from the three Museum Directors, thus being a collection of memories of Karol Estreicher Jr., Stanisław Waltoś and Krzysztof Stopka. The exhibition will be available until 31st December daily from 9:00 to the nightfall. Free entry. We invite you to visit the Huta Courtyard on 29th October at 16:00 (entrance from the Św. Anny 10 Street) to attend at the official opening event of the Estreicher's Corner with sculptures made by Prof. Karol Badyna and donated by the artist.
