The new exhibition presented in Collegium Maius tells the little known story which can be considered as a symbolic fullfilment of the Wernyhora prophecy, considering the rebirth of Polish independence. The presence of wounded Turkish soldiers in the hospitals of the Fortress Cracow in the years 1916-1919 was also an important reason for creation of the Chair of Turkology at the Jagiellonian University, which is the oldest in entire Poland

Lecture: ‘In search of Native American past. Polish archaeological project in Colorado, USA'

The Polish archaeological project has been conducted by the researchers from the Institute of Archaeology, Jagiellonian University in the ancient Pueblo settlements from the 13th century, located in a few canyons in Colorado in the North American Southwest. The project focuses on the study of the settlement structure and socio-cultural changes that took place among the Pueblo natives and eventually caused the abandonment of the area and unexplained migration towards present-day Arizona and New Mexico near the end of the 13th century

Jana Matejko's painting in Dorotheum

The auction house Dorotheum has recently put the portrait of Prof. Karol Gilewski (1832 – 1871) by Jan Matejko to auction. The painting has been owned by a private person for many years and will become available for sale on the 22th October. This portrait would perfectly match the Museum's collection of professor portraits, but its opening price remains beyond our range. However, the Collegium Maius Aula features a copy of the portrait
